SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — State Representative Brian Ashe will visit Springfield Together Camp on Wednesday, August 12 to speak briefly with the local young people who filled its final summer session — a program made possible by a state budget allocation he secured.
The visit takes place at 1:30 p.m. at Blunt Park's John H. Thomas Memorial Pool on Roosevelt Avenue, during the camp's final week of the summer. Representative Ashe will be joined by Representative Bud Williams and other members of the Springfield delegation, and will offer brief remarks to the campers.
Springfield Together Camp gives Springfield youth a summer of recreation and hands-on leadership development close to home. Earlier this summer, the delegation presented Springfield Together with a $50,000 Commonwealth of Massachusetts allocation earmarked for community program support — funding that underwrote the camp and its programming.
Run in partnership with Strong Young Minds, the camp pairs everyday summer fun with mentorship aimed at building confidence and leadership. Organizers say the program has left a lasting impact, teaching participants skills they carry back into the school year and their neighborhoods.
